Christine Hankin studied the flute at the Guildhall School of Music. She now has a successful and varied career and is currently a member of both the London Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestra of St Johns.
As a soloist, she made her Purcell Room debut to much critical acclaim, and her recent CD “The Feminine Flute” has been extremely well received.
She is well respected as a teacher and is Professor of Flute at the London College of Music and Brunel University, as well as director of the Ealing Flute Academy.
As well as being a music Adjudicator for the British and International Federation of Festivals, she is a Diploma examiner for the ABRSM.
The Sturge Trophy will be awarded for the best solo performance (14 years & under)
The Zurich Insurance Woodwind Cup will be awarded for the best performance (15-18 years)
The Karen Cup for musicianship and versatility will be awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator for a performer playing in a number of classes and demonstrating the ability to communicate music in different genres
The Hunt Baroque Cup will be awarded to the best performance of a piece written between 1600 and 1750
The Beginners Cup will be awarded to the most promising beginner recorder
The Christopher Cup will be awarded to the best recorder performer Grades 1 – 4
The Norman Strugnell Memorial Cup will be awarded to the best recorder performer Grades 5 – 8+
All performers are encouraged to give a short introduction to their piece(s).

Ww54 - Under 11-18 years
These classes are intended to prepare performers who may wish to undertake a recital at a later stage in their development. Own choice of two or three pieces, with or without piano or backing track accompaniment.
Ww35 - Pre-Grade 1
Ww36 - Grades 1-2
Ww37 - Grades 3-4
For adult players of any standard who will be given a helpful commentary on their playing of their own choice of music.
Ww66 - Non-competitive
Any two woodwind instruments with or without accompaniment. Own choice of one piece or one movement from a sonata or similar work. Only the pupil will be adjudicated. Fee as soloist.
Ww55 - Pre-Grade 1
Ww56 - Grades 1-2
Ww57 - Grades 3-4
Ww58 - Grades 5-6

Own choice of one or two movements from a concerto originally intended for your instrument. Performers should introduce the piece they are to play.

Novices are considered to be players who have not been learning their first woodwind instrument for more than 18 months on 1st January 2024. Own choice of one piece or movement.

Performers should offer two or three contrasting pieces with or without accompaniment. Performers should introduce their programme and will be adjudicated on their programme choice and presentation as well as their performance. They are also encouraged to perform one piece from memory, although this is not compulsory.
